Naples wins the
Coconut Bowl
An overflow crowd witnessed the longest annual rivalry game in Collier County, the Coconut Bowl.  This year, it had even more importance, as it was a district game, with the district winner guaranteed a home playoff game in the first round of the state playoffs.  Naples scored midway through the first quarter after a 30 yard run by CJ Dietzel moved the Golden Eagles into the red zone.  Elan Sommala punched it in from the one for the score. With the Golden Eagle defense smothering the Trojans, Dustin McGill added a 14-yard score to extend the lead. An onsides kick by Nick Herber presented the offense with a short field, which Sommala took advantage of with a 6-yard run. An interception by James Sylvestre once again provided a short field, and this time Dietzel weaved into the end zone from 16 yards out, and Naples was up 29-0 at intermission.

In the opening minutes of the third quarter, Dominiq Ponder found Paul St. Louis at the goal line, and he twisted his way into the end zone with a 9-yard reception.  Now up 36-0, and the mandatory running clock, the remaining 22 minutes of play clock passed quickly. Jackson Tuberville took full advantage of his opportunity with a slithering 8 run TD run.  Fittingly, the Golden Eagle defense closed out the scoring with a vicious pass rush and subsequent safety for the final 45-0 margin.
